About

My name is Melissa Kucinski.  I am an attorney in Washington, D.C.  I practice family law and am licensed in D.C., Maryland and Virginia.  The predominant part of my law practice focuses on multi-jurisdictional, including international, cases. I litigate and mediate (including an early adopter of online dispute resolution).  I am an advocate for children in complex multi-jurisdictional, including child abduction, cases.  I also work on international judicial assistance cases, including evidence, service, and apostille cases (the type you will see included in my blog).  I am a fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers.

About My Blog

I have been honored to be included as a co-editor of the annual Year-in-Review article since 2013, summarizing the past year's international family law updates.  This yearly article is published as part of SMU Dedman School of Law's journals.  During my brief stint as a consultant at The Hague Conference on Private International Law, I helped summarize U.S. cases for its online case search website, INCADAT.   When only a baby lawyer, I was first introduced to an international family lawyer from California, Bill Hilton.  Bill maintained a tremendous website that served as a resource for so many international family lawyers.  It is a privilege to be able to work on a project that can help my colleagues, in Bill's honor.
