About Me

My name is Melissa Kucinski.  I am an attorney in Washington, D.C.  I practice family law and am licensed in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia.  The predominant part of my law practice focuses on multi-jurisdictional cases. I litigate and mediate, and am an early adopter of online dispute resolution because I routinely represent clients overseas.  I am an advocate for children in complex international cases, including international parental child abductions.  I also work on international judicial assistance cases, including evidence, service, and apostille cases.  I am a fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers.

About My Blog

My goal with this Blog is to help lawyers stay current on issues in international family law. I have been honored to be included as a co-author of the annual International Family Law Year-in-Review law journal article since 2013, summarizing the past year's international family law updates.  This yearly article is published as part of SMU Dedman School of Law's journals.  During my brief stint as a consultant at The Hague Conference on Private International Law, I updated U.S. court cases for the HCCH's online case search website, INCADAT.   Family lawyers often reach out to me, asking for resources to better educate themselves about international family law.  It is my genuine hope that this blog will become one of those resources.
